Our Values
In accordance with our Standard Working Agreement (SWA) and the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) Code of Conduct, Salesian Missions Australia respects, protects, and promotes internationally recognised human rights for all people, regardless of background or identity.
Our values are rooted in Catholic Social Teaching, which guides our dedication to the preservation and protection of human rights. We work to empower individuals to realise their rights and to support those responsible for upholding them, particularly in the areas of equality,
Human Dignity Every person has inherent worth and dignity, rooted in the sacredness of life. | The common good We work for a just society where all, especially the vulnerable can flourish. | Subsidiarity and Participation: Decisions should be made locally, empowering people to take part in shaping their lives and communities. | Solidarity We stand in unity with others, particularly the disadvantaged, recognising the equal rights of all. |
| Preferential care for the poor: The needs of the poor and vulnerable must take priority in our actions and advocacy. | Economic justice: Economic life should serve the common good, ensuring all capable of working should be involved in economic activity, providing for themselves and their families. | Stewardship of creation: we care for the earth, our common home, embracing an “internal ecology” that connect humanity and nature. |
These values are instrumental in our dedication to the preservation and protection of Human Rights for all. To enable people to realise their rights and assist those responsible for upholding such rights as equality, freedom from discrimination and access to education, in line with the United Nations Charter on Human Rights, 1948.
